What is AAC and the TippyTalk app?

TippyTalk is a two-way AAC communication app designed for non-verbal and speech-impaired individuals.

What is TippyTalk?

TippyTalk is an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) app designed to help non-verbal and speech-impaired individuals communicate their needs, thoughts, and emotions quickly and effectively.

Why AAC matters

For non-verbal and speech-impaired individuals, being understood can be a daily challenge. AAC apps like TippyTalk give users a way to express themselves clearly, helping to reduce frustration and emotional distress — for both the individual and their family. At the same time, TippyTalk models language in real time, showing users how their needs and feelings are expressed in words, which can support speech development over time.

How TippyTalk works

TippyTalk is a two-way communication tool. Users create simple sentences by selecting illustrated cards, which can then be:

  • Read aloud directly on the device, or

  • Sent to a community member: such as a parent or caregiver, who can respond with a video or audio message

This makes TippyTalk more than just a communication aid. It creates a real, back-and-forth connection between the user and the people who support them.

Who is TippyTalk for?

TippyTalk is designed for non-verbal and speech-impaired individuals and the parents, caregivers, and professionals who support them. It is simple enough for everyday home use while being effective across a range of environments including therapy and educational settings.
